Jody Ellen

"Absolutely wonderful! Jody's voice runs the range of powerful to soulful without ever losing it's distinctiveness."

There is no denying that Seattle based singer/songwriter Jody Ellen is a force to be reckoned with. When Jody takes the stage, her passion and energy pour out into the crowd, and there is an undeniable feeling that she is something different. Armed with an astounding vocal range, ear-catching pop melodies, tight harmonies, a spunky/fearless personality, and fiery red locks- Jody is building serious momentum in the Steampunk music and mainstream scene.

Hot off the release of her September 2012 debut album, "Skyscrapers & Helicopters," she just finished her first major headlining tour, the "Skyscraper Tour," in November of 2012. The "Skyscrapers" album has garnered excellent 5 star reviews all around from fans on CD Baby. One stating:

"Jody Ellen, already a luminary of the Steampunk music scene genre as the backing vocalist for

Abney Park, shows that she can shine just as brilliantly by herself with this powerful contemporary solo debut... There wasn't a single 'meh' track on the album... every song had my rapt attention."

Jody Ellen has always been a natural performer. She is passionate about the arts and loves acting, dancing, writing, and of course, singing! At a young age, Jody starting writing songs in her bedroom, and performing at local talent shows. As she got older, she started practicing singing and playing the guitar and piano everyday for several hours after school. By the age of 16, she was writing very well-developed and interestingly moody songs. Two of these songs are featured on her debut album- the deep, hauntingly brilliant track "Lifeless" and the infectiously brooding, opening track "Playpen."

At the age of 20, Jody recieved her first major exposure on the televised singing competition "Seattle Stars." Chosen out of hundreds of contestants, she was narrowed down to be one of the top 5 finalists- bringing down the house with Jewel, Eva Cassidy, and Evanescence numbers. This experience gave her just a small taste of what was to come. Over the years, she has developed a unique musical and vocal style that draws from her love of all types of music and numerous influences- Melodic Rock, Pop, Bluegrass, Jazz, R&B, and Gospel. Jody has been compared to many artists such as: Amy Lee, Jewel, Hayley Williams, Alanis Morissette, Christina Perri, and so many others.

As she writes and arranges all of her own songs, Jody has a refreshing approach to her music. She sings and writes from the depths of her heart and life struggles, which really comes across honestly to the listener. These aren't just generic "pop" songs from Jody. They draw from her own experiences- most of which are from past and current relationships and life struggles. With passionate vocals and heartfelt lyrics, she really lets you feel every note she sings.

Currently, Jody is the female vocalist the quintessential Steampunk band, "Abney Park." Based out of Seattle, they have graced many stages all over the world and have had specials on G4, MTV, and Evening magazine. In her solo career, Jody has performed at places like "Cafe Du Nord" in San Francisco, the "California Institute of Abnormal Arts" in Los Angeles, "Queen Bees" in San Diego and "The Can Can" in Seattle. Jody Ellen has been featured in magazines such as "Gothic Beauty," "Devolution," "Ladies of Steampunk," "Fairy Room," and on "NPR," "Interview With A Geek," "Behind the Steam" "The Gatehouse" and "Popdose.com." She has had the pleasure of performing with Thomas Dolby, Beats Antique, Unwoman, Abney Park, Professor Elemental, Steam Powered Giraffe, and tons of other wonderful artists. You can also find her performing at local events and shows with her solo project, and at many Steampunk events. She is now in the process of writing and producing her Sophomore album, and putting together some killer music videos for her debut album.
