Singer/Songwriter Jody Ellen is a force to be reckoned with! Armed with a tremendous vocal range, an effortless lyrical style, tight harmonies, the ability to mimic and conquer any vocal styling, a spunky personality, and fiery red locks, Jody has been gaining serious momentum in the Steampunk music scene.
Ever since she was a young child, Jody was listening to her father while he played the guitar and taught her to harmonize. She has always known that she was destined to be a Professional Singer when she "grew up". At a young age, she would create songs and perform them at family gatherings or just to herself in the mirror. The world was her stage! As she got older, she started practicing singing everyday for several hours after school and by the age of 15, she was writing very developed and interestingly moody songs. Over the years, she has developed a unique musical and vocal style that draws from her numerous influences-- Rock, Bluegrass, Country, Jazz, R&B, and a splash of Gospel. Jody has been compared to many artists such as: Jewel, Michelle Branch, Hayley Williams, Amy Lee, Alanis Morissette, and so many others. A natural performer, she is also trained in dance (bellydance and contemporary styles), theatre, and she plays the piano, guitar and autoharp. Also, she can be seen as the televison host on local show called "Public Report" on KTBW.
As she writes and arranges all of her own songs, Jody has a refreshing approach to her music. She sings and writes from the heart, which really comes across to the listener. These aren't just generic "pop" songs. They draw from her own experiences- most of which are from past and current relationships and life struggles. With passionate vocals and heartfelt lyrics, she really feels every note she sings.
Currently, Jody is in the touring, legendary, and quintessential Steampunk band, "Abney Park." Based out of Seattle, they have graced many stages all over the world from "Scala" in London, to "The Backyard at Bee Cave" in Austin, to "The Edison" in Los Angeles, to "Old Tuscon Studios" in Tuscon, to "The McDonald Theater" in Eugene. Abney Park has paved the way for "Steampunk" as a musical genre, and have had specials appear on MTV, Evening Magazine, the G4 Network and much more. Jody Ellen has been in the band since 2009 and has fully come into her own as the "female vocalist" of Abney Park. You can currently find her touring with Abney Park, working on producing her first major solo album, performing at local events, even singing at occasional church services. Be sure to keep a lookout for Jody in the near future!
